Meet Mrs. Brown
If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you know that I have been the poster child for single women entrepreneurs. Not anymore!
On March 14, 2020 I married my love in an intimate ceremony with just us on the side of the Appalachian Mountains. It was literally a dream come true, and I can’t wait to start building a life as Mrs. Brown.
How we met
At the end of 2018, my installer Chris randomly asked me was I dating anyone. His trainer had been speaking of a friend who was a great catch but having a hard time meeting someone special. Of course, I wasn’t really dating at all and truthfully not interested in doing it. I was in the midst of building my business and felt like I just didn’t have enough energy to invest in someone else. I reluctantly told Chris to share my number with Troy and eventually went out on a lunch date with him.
I remember I literally came from a consultation meeting wearing flats and a blazer, and as soon as I saw Troy and he leaned in to give me a hug, I was literally star struck! We talked for hours and I left feeling like this man was too good to be true. We parted ways and joked about how he was nearly a foot & a half taller than me, and I thought I would go back to my little single cocoon and never hear from him again.
Boy was I wrong.
Troy followed up with me and said he’d like to see me again and initially, I ran! I told him that he deserved to have someone that could give him their undivided attention and he humbly accepted that. Weeks went by and I kept thinking of him and talking about him to my mom & close friends and because they know me so well, they encouraged me to reach back out. Thankfully, Troy was still there when I came to my senses and the rest is history!
After an amazing year of dating, traveling, meeting each others families, DIY home updates and more, Troy proposed with the ring I actually dreamt of and I couldn’t be more excited to say YES to building a life with this man.
Our wedding day
When we got engaged last fall, unfortunately I went into one of the worst health challenging periods of my life. I was bedridden for weeks of inpatient hospital treatment and to say I lost my mind is not an overstatement at all. I have been living with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis for the last 5 years and the flare that I started just days after we were engaged was the worst I’d ever experienced. I’ll be sharing more about that in a separate blog post, but that detail is important to our wedding story.
After everything we went through to get me back to my new normal, we didn’t want to delay starting our lives as husband & wife. We wanted it to be special, but as stress-free as possible leading up to our special day. We both really wanted to have a peaceful, intimate moment with just the two of us. We both have family that loves us and were supportive of us getting married, but we knew that to narrow it down to a small group would be next to impossible. We realized that in order to get the day of our dreams without more drama than we wanted we needed to cut the guest list and have just us.
What’s next
Troy supports me in all my entrepreneur dreams. I’m so thankful for a partner who will do anything to help me reach my goals and doesn’t feel slighted at all by my ambition. Early on in our dating he asked me if I knew who Dolly Parton’s husband is, and when I told him no, he replied “Exactly! that’s who I wanna be!” 😁So, you’ll probably not see much of him, but know that he’s always beside me.
You’ll still see behind the scenes peeks into my interior design studio here on the blog and even more DIY content as we make our house a home. You’ll see a shift in my social media too! My Instagram account will still remain “Niki McNeill” although my new name is “Niki McNeill Brown” and you’ll see more of my interior design projects on my SingleBubblePop account. For those of you who follow me to see more design inspiration, be sure to follow us there!
